Award-Winning Conductor | Connecting Audiences with the Magic of Music

As a conductor, my role is to serve as the bridge between the composer's intent and the ensemble's execution. I must first envision, with my inner ear, the sound the composer or arranger intended - their deepest musical truth. Then, in rehearsal, I must discern the gap between that vision and the reality of the performance. My task is to guide the musicians, through precise communication and shared understanding, to eliminate that gap, bringing the music to life in its purest and most authentic form. Nigel Horne has gained a reputation over the years of working with musical groups in greatest need of help, in both England and the US, rather like the entrepreneur going in to help an ailing business to build them up to more than even their wildest dreams. If you're looking for a director to work with your players to put in place a long-term vision and bring them up to reaching their fullest potential and beyond, then drop him a line. Nigel has studied composition and arranging under Philip Wilby, Arthur Butterworth, Alan Fernie and Darrol Barry. Using the skills he learnt he has focussed on the more serious end of music composition, but this hasn't stopped him occasionally dabbling in fun arrangements. He has sat on the board and executive council of bodies such as the National Association of Brass Band Conductors and the North American Brass Band Association. He is in demand as an adjudicator, conductor and clinician, most recently working alongside James Gourlay, Stephen Bulla, Brett Baker and others as a clinician at the Mid-Atlantic Brass Band Festival. He has a B.A. in band studies from the University of Sheffield, an M. Phil in composition from the University of Leeds, and a Licenciate Diploma in brass band adjudication from Salford University. He has played both the tenor horn and percussion in top level bands in the UK.
